(Sister Ann Sakac via Mount Saint Mary College)
Former Mount Saint Mary College President Sr. Ann Sakac passed away on Jan. 24 at age 91. She was honored in a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday morning, Jan. 30, in the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary in the Dominican Center on the Mount campus.
The funeral Mass was attended by friends, family, Mount faculty and staff and her fellow Dominican Sisters.
Those that she touched during her 21-year career as an educator and 32 years as president of Mount Saint Mary College shared stories midway through the service. Whether it were anecdotes of the great pride and integrity she had in the college, her tremendous motherly instincts or her ability to guide students under her wing as a friend and mentor, the impact she had was evident.
Sr. Peggy Murphy, former Mount professor, called Sakac a true friend who specialized in “doubling the joys and halving the sorrows.”
Throughout the service, her background was detailed, moments of silence were shared and plenty of stories captured who she was as a person.

Following a brief break, MSMC Interim President Father Gregoire Fluet celebrated a traditional Catholic Mass in Sakac’s honor.
Fluet said, “It is difficult to imagine Mount Saint Mary College as we know it today without the dedication and leadership of Sister Ann Sakac.”
He then led the attendees in a walk down to the campus cemetery where Sakac was buried. The group joined in prayer and shared further memories.
A reception followed in Guzman Hall.
